maple worker app
AI-driven healthcare shift scheduling app
The project
Clipboard Health partnered with Maple to explore AI-driven healthcare staffing solutions. I led the design of Maple Worker — a shift scheduling platform for healthcare professionals, built as part of an experimental suite alongside Maple Care and Maple Scribe.
This was a concept-to-prototype project completed in 6 weeks. Due to startup changes, it did not launch to production, but the process delivered valuable design systems, prototypes, and insights.
Healthcare facilities face persistent staffing shortages and scheduling inefficiencies. Maple Worker aimed to address these challenges by:
Matching qualified professionals with shifts through AI.
Simplifying credential checks, payments, and communication.
Driving engagement with gamification and recognition systems.
Process
This project required a holistic approach encompassing brand strategy, product architecture, and user experience design for a complex two-sided marketplace.
Analyzed workflows of nurses, CNAs, and caregivers
Identified pain points: credential verification delays, schedule conflicts, payment opacity, lack of recognition.
Defined naming and positioning within the Maple suite for brand cohesion.
Created a purple-based identity aligned with Maple’s ecosystem.
Built a robust design system: iconography, shift color coding, and information hierarchy for complex data
Designed flows for both workers (shift discovery/management) and facilities (shift posting/tracking).
Introduced AI-powered matching and gamification (badges, leaderboards).
Considered financial empowerment features (earnings tracking, instant pay).
Prototyping
Solution
Maple Worker delivers a seamless platform that transforms how healthcare professionals manage their careers.
It combines intelligent shift matching with comprehensive workforce management tools.
Outcomes & Learnings
While not deployed in production, the project delivered:
A complete prototype Validated through stakeholder and user feedback.
Actionable insights On how healthcare workers value financial transparency and recognition.
A scalable design system projected impact
Platform Adoption based on research and prototype testing): reduced time to fill shifts, higher worker retention, and improved facility visibility.
